The American Bus Association (ABA) Foundation recently released its 2025 Motorcoach Economic Impact Report, measuring the motorcoach industry’s contribution to the U.S. economy across both group travel and scheduled service. The study was conducted by Tourism Economics.
According to the data, motorcoach travel generated $161.6 billion in total economic impact in 2025, up from $158.0 billion in 2024. The industry supported 897,449 full- and part-time jobs and generated $28.0 billion in federal, state, and local tax revenue.
Additionally, motorcoach travelers spent $72.5 billion in 2025, a 3.9% increase over 2024, on transportation, lodging, food, recreation, and retail. They traveled an estimated 41.1 billion passenger miles.
For the first time, the study includes county-level data alongside the state and congressional district analysis produced in previous years, giving operators, destinations and economic development officials a more detailed look at motorcoach travel in their markets.
American Bus Association President & CEO Fred Ferguson
“This data is an engine for growth,” said ABA President & CEO Fred Ferguson. “We’re giving our members better intelligence about where motorcoach travelers are going, what they’re spending, and what that activity is worth in their markets—and then helping them turn those findings into more day trips, overnight stays, and group business. At the same time, this research gives ABA a stronger case on Capitol Hill and in statehouses across the country, expanding our credibility and our voice on behalf of the motorcoach and group travel industry.”
Key findings:
- $72.5 billion in direct spending by motorcoach travelers in 2025, up from $69.8 billion in 2024.
