The Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey (CTANJ) held their autumn meeting on October 7 at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel. The lunchtime event attracted 60 members and guests, including CD Editor Rob Smentek.

In a slight diversion from CTANJ’s usual educational/informational programming, the association presented a panel discussion related to affiliate work. The Affiliate Fast Lane: Proven Tactics From Limo Industry Leaders was moderated by Dav El/BostonCoach Vice President Chris Bockus, and featured four heavy-hitters in the affiliate arena. On the panel was Gem Worldwide Director of Global Business Development Lauren Gulino, EmpireCLS Worldwide Senior Vice President Steve Horowitz, Commonwealth Worldwide Affiliate Manager Bill Placier, and RMA Worldwide Director of Affiliate Relations & Partner Procurement Andrew Tighe. Each panelist deftly fielded questions from Bockus relating to all aspects of affiliate work. The panel discussion was particularly valuable for those seeking to do work with the represented companies.

When it comes to building inbound affiliate partnerships, Tighe recommended that operators fully understand client expectation, namely a three-part tenet of consistency, reliability, and safety. He also said to closely look at the booking process, note vehicle standards, and make sure chauffeurs are “suited and booted.”

Placier expounded on the value of ghost rides for checking service levels of both new and existing affiliate partners. He also recommended NLA Ride for familiarizing yourself with potential affiliates.

Regarding farm-out work, Horowitz stated that it is often challenging, particularly post-pandemic. Ultimately, the key is to create an identical service experience.

When it came to offering advice to new affiliates, Gulino said that it’s imperative to make sure that all the t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted, meaning that you represent yourself as a “professional, reliable business.” It’s key to be honest and open regarding service failures and to take full responsibility.

However, with the rising competition from so-called operators working through Facebook and WhatsApp, Placier advised to avoid social media to find affiliates and only use vetted partners.

Tighe also spoke about the benefits of face-to-face meetings at shows and association events. He cited the CD/NLA Affiliate Central Global Forum as a particularly beneficial way to meet new affiliates.

Following the panel discussion, CTANJ President Mike Rose of My Limousine Service offered the CTANJ Report of news and happenings. First and foremost, he stated that the recent golf fundraiser was “a great success,” and plans are already underway for 2026. Also, he informed members that the association received a generous $18,000 grant from the NLA.

Regarding the ongoing battle with illegal operators, Rose stated that the CTANJ Legislative Committee had met with the Port Authority and law enforcement but noted that it’s proving to be an uphill battle during this election year, when no one seems to be particularly interested in facing a new challenge.

Before concluding, Rose spoke briefly about the coming CD/NLA Show in Dallas, and announced that the CTANJ Holiday Party will take place on December 9, at the Highlawn in West Orange. Lastly, he encouraged all members to donate money to the Barbara J. Chirico Scholarship Fund.
