Maryland Livery Association

Maryland Livery Association

The Maryland Livery Association returned to Jimmy’s Famous Seafood in Baltimore on Tuesday, June 3, for a membership meeting. The lunchtime event attracted 35 members and guests for a discussion on finances and the state of the industry.

“Although some associations don’t typically have a meeting in June, we had a couple of topics I felt were important to discuss,” says MLA President Len Joseph of On The Town Limousines.

The MLA Board invited panelists Mike Villani and Mike Villani Jr. from Auto One Capital along with Eric Coolbaugh of Advantage Remarketing Solutions to talk about what operators need to know about the state of the economy. Key discussion points included the implementation of the tariffs and their effects on the luxury transportation industry. The panelists also discussed the effects of the tariffs on vehicle availability and interest rates, which led to a conversation about financial literacy.

“You don’t want to just start looking at your financial history a month or two before you make a move towards a loan or major purchase. It’s a 12-month program,” says Joseph, stressing the importance of keeping on top of your finances.

The membership also discussed how finances tie into insurance rates. Adam Wiseman from Philadelphia Insurance  was present and he gave some feedback. Joseph also shared a bit about the ongoing problem of illegal operators, and how the MLA is planning to put together a blueprint action plan to assist the DMV in cracking down on operators.

Joseph and the board also unveiled details of the MLA Summer Soiree, held July 23-24 at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.  The first day promises some networking on the golf course, while the association will host educational sessions for the members and attendees on the second day.
