Carey President & CEO Mitchell Lahr
Frederick, Md. — Carey International, a global leader in chauffeured service and ground transportation management announced today that it has named Mitchell Lahr to the role of President and Chief Executive Officer.Lahr, who previously held the position of Carey International’s Chief Financial Officer, will assume the role of President and CEO immediately.

Las Vegas — With just under 2,000 operators, exhibitors, and sponsors rolling into Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on February 22-26 from all over the globe, it’s safe to say that the first Chauffeur Driven (CD)/National Limousine Association (NLA) Show was a jackpot. From standing-room-only educational sessions and a bustling show floor to a ground-breaking keynote and truly rocking after-hours parties, the positive energy was felt in all corners of the event. Many thanks to our committees, staff, attendees, and sponsors—especially Title Sponsors Grech Motors and Ford-Lincoln Limousine & Livery Vehicles—for making this event one that will not be forgotten. Social media—not to mention our inboxes—has been abuzz with effusive praise and enthusiasm, with “Best Show Ever” being shared frequently.
“You guys put on the best show this industry has ever seen,” says David Seelinger of EmpireCLS.
“This show was our best show in our 8-plus years working within transportation. In all the years I’ve worked with the NLA, I have to say that I was blown away by this show. Certainly, a high point of any trade show is getting to see the many familiar faces that have become extended industry family, and this CD/NLA Show was no different. However, it was truly special to see so many new faces from around the globe experience it for very first time. Sunday afternoon’s First-Timers’ Event offered a packed house of fresh faces and industry newbies the ins and outs of our show while providing some instant networking with show veterans.
“As a first-timer, it was more than I expected. Lots of great information from all the speakers and sessions. I can't wait until the next show,” says David Saunders of Arrow Prestige Limousine & Coach.
Speaking of networking, dedicated events like the Affiliate Central Global Partner Forum, the Women in the Industry Networking Luncheon, and International Meet and Greet attracted record numbers of enthusiastic participants. Similarly, our education and Limo University (led by Bill Faeth) sessions were overflowing with attendees hungry for knowledge and ready with tons of questions for our array of speakers. And, while we’re talking about speakers, it’s impossible to discuss the CD/NLA Show without mentioning Grant Cardone, who delivered a rousing Keynote. As predicted, the bestselling author and #1 sales trainer was more than hype: With his dynamic (and always entertaining) presentation, Cardone gave attendees an actionable new outlook on their business and their lives. Many thanks to Grech Motors and Mercedes-Benz for sponsoring this game-changing event.

With associations so vital to the strength of our industry, CD and the NLA were proud to have many state, local, national, and even international associations represented at the show. One of our kickoff events was the Association Summit, which allows the leaders of state and regional associations to come together for a roundtable discussion about the common issues faced by operators across the nation. The moderator of that session, NLA Treasurer Rick Versace of A1A Airport & Limousine, also hosted an open-house meeting of his home state association, the Florida Limousine Association (FLA). In just 45 minutes, the FLA meeting packed in four guest speakers, not to mention a heap of Sunshine State news. The CD/NLA Show was also host to the first meeting of the newly formed European Passenger Transportation Association (EPTA), made up of leading operators from across the continent. If the attendance of this inaugural meeting is any indication of where the EPTA is headed, expect great things from this organization. And, of course, the NLA hosted its annual membership meeting, which saw seven-term NLA President Gary Buffo announce the election of Robert Alexander of RMA Worldwide as new president, effective immediately.

In addition to all of our networking and educational events, the show floor was a monster hit. With more than 100 exhibitors over 120,000-square-foot hall, the floor offered something for everyone, from tech and services to the heaviest metal available. The hustle and bustle in the exhibit hall was nonstop and valued by attendees and vendors alike—and the conversations and deals continued well beyond show floor hours.
“The CD/NLA Show in Las Vegas was off the charts! An action-packed schedule filled with education, networking, speakers, and the latest industry trends kept us busy from the time we landed to the time we flew out. Thank you to everyone who made it happen. We came back with great ideas and a huge purchase (or two),” posts Coastal Limousine of Charleston on Instagram.

NLA Executive Director Kyle Hammerschmidt Las Vegas —The National Limousine Association (NLA) hosted its Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, February 24, 2020 at the first-ever CD/NLA Show at Mandalay Bay. Members and non-members alike packed the room to hear the latest news from the industry’s largest association.
The event was filled with great energy as the NLA celebrated its 35th anniversary and new show partnership with Chauffeur Driven. NLA President Gary Buffo of Pure Luxury Transportation, who stepped down after seven years in the role, thanked the association’s sponsors and members for supporting the NLA during a year of transition, particularly the NLA’s Diamond Sponsors Ford-Lincoln Limousine & Livery and Grech Motors, as well as the Membership Meeting sponsors Chosen Payments and National Interstate Insurance.
As the NLA does at every Annual Membership Meeting, the 2020-2021 Board of Directors was formally introduced as well as the 2020 Board Officers who were elected at the board meeting the previous day:
• President: Robert Alexander of RMA Worldwide
• 1st Vice President: Douglas Schwartz of Executive Ground Transportation
• 2nd Vice President: Tracy Raimer of Windy City Limousine & Bus
• Treasurer: Rick Versace of A1A Airport & Limousine Service

Dillon Doran of Ford-Lincoln (left) and Gary Buffo of Pure Luxury Transportation “I feel very fortunate to be chosen as NLA president, and it’s an honor and privilege I take very seriously,” says Alexander of his election. “I’ve been in the NLA board for a long time and I felt we were at a pivot point. I wanted to be able to continue to make a difference and carry on the legacy that Gary Buffo started. I didn’t want to ever look back and say, ‘I wish I could have, but didn’t.’ I felt an obligation to serve, for sure, and wanted to continue provide an influence to the industry.”
The meeting kicked off with representatives from Ford-Lincoln and Grech Motors Ford Motors presenting the NLA with rebate checks. Dillon Doran of Ford-Lincoln generously presented a check worth $68,500, followed by Ed Grech and AJ Thurber of Grech Motors, who donated a staggering $92,500 rebate to the association.

Alexander thanked his family, staff, and the NLA Board for supporting him in this new role and assured the membership that he is dedicated to continuing the great work and progress of Buffo.
The event also recognized the NLA’s 10 2020 Scholarship Winners who were all first-time show attendees and submitted impressive applications to receive scholarships bestowed by the NLA’s Scholarship Committee.
NLA President Robert Alexander of RMA Worldwide Tracy Raimer and Jason Sharenow, co-chairs of the CD/NLA Show Education Committee, updated attendees on the show’s impressive and valuable educational lineup. Following that update, Alexander shared the efforts of the CD/NLA Charity Committee, including donations to be made to Love146 and Wish for Our Heroes at the show’s Awards Dinner & Charity Event the following evening.
Public Relations Committee Co-Chairs Jason Kaplan of The Driver Provider and Rick Versace sat down with Matthew Berritt and David Harrison of EVINS Communications to dive deeper into the NLA’s upcoming PR initiatives and accomplishments from 2019.
Todd Webster of the NLA’s lobbying firm, Cornerstone Government Affairs provided a legislative update including what’s happening in Washington, D.C. and what to expect given the several possible outcomes of the upcoming presidential election.

NLA Executive Director Kyle Hammerschmidt then presented Buffo with a plaque to commemorate his record seven-year term as NLA president.
Buffo thanked the Board, both past and present, as well as the NLA’s various committees, staff, and members at large for their support during his tenure and congratulated his good friend of 28 years, Alexander, on his new role.
The meeting concluded with a reminder of important upcoming NLA events including No Operator Left Behind Day (May 12), Day on the Hill (June 9-10), and the next CD/NLA Show in Orlando (October 11-14).
