More than 310 GCLA members and supporters turned out for the association’s expo last year
Costa Mesa, Calif. — The Greater California Livery Association (GCLA) is once again gearing up for its annual expo. Boasting some tropical flair with its “Ride the Wave” theme, the event will take place September 24 at Turnip Rose Promenade & Gardens.
The one-day expo showcases the products and services of GCLA vendors and dealers, as well as offering its guests food and drinks, entertainment, and the opportunity to network with hundreds of industry peers. TLPA President Mike Fogarty of Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services and David Seelinger of EmpireCLS Worldwide Transportation Services will also bring their insights to the evening event as guest speakers.
As one of the association’s biggest functions of the year, the expo brings its many operators, vendors, and supporters
Admission is $60 for GCLA members and $75 for non-members who register on or before September 10, $70 for members and $85 for non-members who register on or after September 11, and $80 for members and $95 for non-members on the day of the expo.

Miami — When the Chauffeur Driven Show touches down at Loews Miami Beach October 11-14, two associations’ hour-long membership meetings will be among its many offerings.
The first major industry show to come to The Sunshine State will also give the Florida Limousine Association (FLA) and the regional associations under its banner—the Greater Orlando Limousine Association, the South Florida Limousine Association, and the West Florida Livery Association—meeting space on Monday, October 12, at 8:30 a.m. As operators all over Florida are fighting a range of TNC battles, there will be much to discuss about how each region is seeking a level playing field for the industry and better regulatory practices for TNCs across the state.
The Minority Limousine Operators of America (MLOA) will also hold a morning meeting, bringing together its far-flung membership with an 8 a.m. meeting on Tuesday, October 13. As the association frequently relies on bimonthly conference calls to stay in contact with its members, MLOA will take advantage of having much of its association in one place with educational opportunities, including a guest speaker. Sheila Bright, a recently retired corporate supplier diversity director, will discuss ways that minority operators can gain access to large contracts, as well as hold one-on-one sessions with MLOA members on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each association meeting is open to all registered show attendees.

VLA President Paul Walsh of Superior Executive Transportation
Richmond, Va. — Several members of the Virginia Limousine Association (VLA) attended a stakeholders’ follow-up meeting with the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) on September 3. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss proposed changes to ground transportation regulations for both Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Va., and Washington Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Va.
According to the new regulations, every legally operating transportation company performing pickups and drop-offs at either airport will be required to have a permit indicating that they are allowed to do so. Each permit can be purchased by a limousine company for a one-time registration fee, as well as associated fees for the AVI units that will automatically charge each account with an access fee each time a vehicle travels into the designated pickup and drop-areas that the MWAA has created.
While VLA President Paul Walsh of Superior Executive Transportation said that the fees will present a bit of a burden “that we’re going to have to pass on to our customers,” he is optimistic about the new development.
“I think, all in all, it was better than we expected it to be,” he said. “Obviously, we hate having to pay more money to use their facilities but that’s part of doing business correctly. I think everyone was expecting this to be a bit more costly but I think in terms of the bigger picture, if it works, it’ll be great.”
Walsh added that the measure stems from the need to cut down on congestion at both airports, which have “seen an uptick in TNC drivers doing circles and blocking traffic, and Dulles and Regan cannot afford that additional headache.” The two airports have already designated their holding lots for ground transportation vehicles.
The VLA’s next meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 14.
